TACLOBAN CITY – In a stunning performance at the ongoing Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2023, Tacloban City dominated the badminton events, securing gold and silver medals for both boys and girls singles.
Ma. Nicole Notorio took home the gold for the girls singles secondary category, while Stephen James Pantuan won the gold for the boys singles secondary category. Meagan Morata of Baybay City settled for silver in the girls singles, while Taclobanon Dwayne Amancio received a silver for the boys singles.
These emerging sports superstars from Tacloban will now represent Eastern Visayas in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City. The local government unit of Tacloban is extending its support to the athletes, including ensuring sufficient food for them.
Mayor Alfred Romualdez personally donated food packs for the delegates, in addition to the provisions from DepEd Tacloban and the local government, which are available at the Leyte National High School (LNHS), where the Tacloban delegation is staying.
Meanwhile, the Tacloban City swimming team also dominated the event, securing four golds, five silvers, and six bronzes. Dwayne Asuncion, Ghiven Brasileno, Claire Tripoli, and Jan Dwayne Malpas were the standout performers, with Malpas securing four golds and one silver. These swimmers will also represent Eastern Visayas in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa.
As of April 27, 2023, Tacloban City has accumulated 12 golds, 23 silvers, and 17 bronzes, placing them in third place in the medal tally. Ormoc City currently leads with 216 medals, including 109 golds. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
