TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways - Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-Biliran DEO) has reported the construction of the new Biliran Provincial Hospital (BPH) in Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran, is 90% completed.
During a recent project inspection, the OIC-District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido of the Biliran District Engineering Office shared the update.
The DPWH-Biliran DEO oversees the hospital's development in close collaboration with the DPWH Regional Office 8 and the Department of Health (DOH). The project, bolstered by an allocation of Php 400-M, is a result of the dedicated efforts of Cong. Gerardo J. Espina Jr., who aspires to provide Biliranons with high-quality and affordable healthcare services complete with modern facilities.
OIC-DE Bollido led the project inspection on Tuesday, May 16, accompanied by a team of engineers and technical personnel from Biliran DEO and contractor representatives. Bollido explained that the Php 400-M funding covers the completion of Building "1," the construction of the main structural member for Building "2," and a road network as part of the site development plan. The project is set to complete by July 28, 2023.
Building "1" features an Out Patients Department (OPD) and Emergency Room on the first floor and a medical ward, central and supply sterilization rooms, and a roof deck garden on the second floor. Additional funding of P250-M has been requested by Cong. Espina to complete Building "2," which will house various medical laboratories, examination rooms, an operating room complex, a labor and delivery room, and the Neonatal and Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The purpose of their project inspection, according to OIC-DE Bollido, is to ensure that the project's implementation aligns with the approved plans and specifications set by the DPWH and the DOH. He revealed that while minor defects were detected, these issues could be easily addressed by the contractor and would be monitored in the upcoming inspections.
Upon completion, the new BPH will comprise 2-storey, 4-building complex with a roof deck, covering a total floor area of 11,930 sq.m, and featuring a total of 120-bed capacity, significantly bolstering the healthcare capacity of the region. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH-8)
