TACLOBAN CIY – In a recent display of dedication to its anti-drug initiatives, the city government subjected 100 randomly-selected local government employees to a drug test on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) oversaw the testing process at the USAID building, working closely with the local government unit's New Beginnings Program, City Health Office, and the Human Resources Management and Development Office (HRMDO).
This event marks the first annual random drug tests for LGU workers, designed to maintain a drug-free workplace and ensure employee accountability. These tests serve as a crucial component in the city government's ongoing efforts to address drug-related issues and promote a safe, healthy environment for its citizens.
The New Beginnings Program, the city government's flagship anti-drug initiative, was created through City Council Resolution 2017-13-161 in response to the drug and crime war that raged under the previous administration. The program aims to provide a comprehensive approach to tackling drug abuse, focusing on prevention, education, and rehabilitation.
Mayor Romualdez issued Executive Order No. 2022-05-10 on May 24, 2022, reconstituting the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council to further strengthen the program.
This order aims to enhance the council's effectiveness by streamlining its structure, improving coordination among members, and ensuring that its actions align with the goals of the New Beginnings Program. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
