TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas (DSWD-8) has recently extended financial aid to indigenous communities in Eastern Samar and surrenderees in Leyte.
On May 2, 2023, a total of Php153,000 was disbursed to 51 indigenous individuals during a ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol Gym in Borongan City, Eastern Samar. The event was spearheaded by Atty. Philip Evardone from the provincial government of Eastern Samar, in collaboration with DSWD-8 SubField Office Eastern Samar.
Simultaneously, a separate distribution took place at the Municipal Gym in Maydolong, Eastern Samar, where 48 indigenous residents were granted Php2,000 each, totaling Php96,000. The local government of Maydolong, Eastern Samar, under the leadership of Mayor Godofredo T. Garado, joined forces with DSWD-8 SubField Office Eastern Samar to facilitate the event.
Earlier, between April 24 and 25, 2023, DSWD Field Office VIII successfully allocated Php3,771,000 in financial support to 1,257 members of the Integrated Peace and Development Workers Association (IPDWA) and surrenderees at H141B, Brgy. Uguis, Mahaplag, Leyte. The distribution was carried out by the SubField Office Leyte, in partnership with NTF ELCAC, 8ID Philippine Army, Avenger 14IB PA, 93IB PA, Province of Leyte, Province of Southern Leyte, and the office of Sen. Robin Padilla.
This financial assistance is part of a comprehensive government initiative aimed at aiding individuals as they reintegrate into mainstream society. —iTacloban
