TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas (DSWD-8) has provided assistance to twelve families affected by a fire in Barangay Poblacion del Sur and Poblacion del Norte, Villaba, Leyte, on May 1, 2023, at around 3:50 am.
Each family received a family food pack, family kit, hygiene kit, kitchen kit, sleeping kit, sleeping foam, distilled water, and a jerry can as augmentation support from DSWD to the municipality of Villaba. Villaba Mayor Carlos G. Veloso and DSWD Municipal Action Team (MAT) Villaba collaborated on the distribution, which took place on May 4, 2023.
In addition to their efforts in Villaba, Leyte, the DSWD Field Office VIII also extended a helping hand to 198 clients from various vulnerable sectors in Taft, Eastern Samar. The assistance was provided on May 3, 2023, at the Municipal Gym, Taft, Eastern Samar.
Through the joint efforts of DSWD-8 SubField Office Eastern Samar and the local government of Taft, Eastern Samar, the beneficiaries received a total of ₱594,000.00 in financial aid.
The Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program serves as a social safety net, a stop-gap mechanism to support individuals and families recovering from unexpected crises such as illness or the death of a family member and other crisis situations. —iTacloban
