TACLOBAN CITY – This year's fiesta activities will include an array of thrilling sports competitions organized by the City Government of Tacloban through the City Sports Development Office in partnership with the Hiraya Foundation.
Dubbed the Sangyaw Sports Events, these competitions aim to showcase the city's sporting prowess and allow athletes to display their skills. According to City Sports Coordinator Michael Dela Peña, the following sports events are scheduled:
- June 11-17: Sangyaw Cup Inter-Municipality/Town Basketball Tournament at the Astrodome
- June 15-17: National Bangkarera Competition at Cancabato Bay, in front of the Balyuan Amphitheater
- June 15-18: Sangyaw Sepak Takraw National Open at North Robinson's North Tacloban (Abucay)
- June 23-25: Sangyaw Cup National Football Open at the Leyte Sports Development Center (Grandstand)
- June 23-28: Sangyaw Cup Homegrown Volleyball Club Championship at the CEO Gymn (Justice Romualdez St.)
- June 25: Sangyaw Trail Challenge at Victor's Peak, a mountain in Barangay Apitong, Tacloban
To ensure the success and safety of the events, various government agencies will be actively involved. The Tacloban City Rescue Unit (TACRU) will provide first aid and medical support, while the City Police Office and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will handle security and emergency response.
The City Information Office will oversee news coverage and documentation, while the City General Services Office (CGSO) will maintain cleanliness and sanitation. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will be responsible for the sound system setup.
The city government remains committed to delivering a seamless and exhilarating experience during the celebration of the Sangyaw Sports Events.
