TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated Php 26.36 million for a Katubigan (Kalsada Tungo sa Patubigan) project in Binahaan north river irrigation system – main canal service road in Pastrana, Leyte. The project is part of the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) program of the DPWH.
The Katubigan project aims to provide concrete roads beside irrigation systems in farm fields to improve access and productivity. The project will cover 1,981.50 linear meters of road construction and some portions will have concrete stone masonry as protection from water erosion.
According to Leyte Second District Engineering Office (L2DEO) District Engineer Leo Edward Oppura, the project will benefit the local community by reducing travel time and transport costs, increasing farm income, and facilitating access to medical and social services.
The DPWH-SIPAG program seeks to boost economic activity by opening more opportunities for livelihood and faster access to education and other services. The Katubigan project is one of the ongoing flood control and irrigation projects of the DPWH and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in various parts of the country.
The project is expected to be completed by October 2023 and is being carried out by CNE Construction. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH-8)
