TACLOBAN CITY – The Mangonbangon Bridge II in Tacloban City has partially opened after renovation, marking a significant development for local transportation infrastructure and improving commuter connectivity.
Constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO), the bridge now allows the passage of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), motorcycles, and bicycles. It links Avenida Veteranos Road to the Daang Maharlika national highway.
With a total contract amount of Php 17,565,202.56 million, the four-lane bridge with a carriageway is a significant milestone in enhancing the local transportation network. Funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2022, the project aims to provide convenience and accessibility to Tacloban City residents.
Charlie Tampil, Chief of the Construction Section and Project Engineer for Mangonbangon Bridge II, shared, "We are delighted to announce the PARTIAL OPENING of the bridge to the public. This project has been a collaborative effort, and we are confident that it will provide enhanced accessibility and convenience to the residents of Tacloban City. We remain committed to completing the remaining construction as soon as possible to fully realize the benefits of this infrastructure."
DPWH-TCDEO District Engineer Johnny M. Acosta expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the project, emphasizing its potential to improve connectivity and spur economic growth in the region.
