TACLOBAN CITY – The stage was set for the crowning of Miss Tacloban 2023 with a stunning display of talent and beauty. The pageant unveiled its new queens on June 24 at the Tacloban Convention Center, each embodying Tacloban City's tenacity and rich cultural heritage.
Angela Melvie N. Bucu, representing Barangay 91 Abucay, emerged as the night's shining star, securing the prestigious title of Miss Tacloban 2023. Bucu captivated the judges and audience with her winning answer, which focused on promoting Tacloban City's vibrant culture, heritage, and history to the rest of the world.
Her slogan, "We Share What's Ours," resonated with the spirit of Taclobanons, who generously impart their experiences, stories, and smiles. Bucu confidently proclaimed Tacloban the home of the happiest and most resilient people on Earth.
As the newly crowned queen, Bucu received the coveted crown and a cash prize of P50,000. In addition to these honors, she was presented with several special awards, including Miss RDL Baby Skin, Miss Blue Glanz Wedding & Events Boutique, and the Most Photogenic minor award.
Standing alongside Bucu were two other exceptional contestants who earned their rightful places in the court. Niña Athena S. Ariza, celebrated as Miss Tacloban Eco-Tourism, captured the judges' attention and was rewarded with a cash prize of P30,000. Ariza's remarkable performance also secured her the first runner-up position for the Best in Modern Filipiniana Terno category. Ylh A. Portillo, crowned as Miss Tacloban Charity, made an indelible impression, earning a cash prize of P20,000 and an impressive collection of 11 special awards, including Miss Congeniality, Best in Modern Filipiniana Terno, and Best in Swimwear.
Gabrielle Glenn T. Caidic attained the honorable title of 1st runner-up, receiving a cash prize of P15,000. Similarly, Paola Gabrielle A. Russel claimed the 2nd runner-up position, accompanied by a cash prize of P10,000. Russel's outstanding talents in Best in Talent, Best in Production Number, and Best in Long Gown earned her multiple accolades.
The beauty pageant was gracefully hosted by the talented artist Martin Javier and organized by the local government through the City Tourism Operations Office in partnership with the Sangyaw Foundation Inc. This remarkable event served as a highlight of Tacloban City's 134th fiesta celebration, showcasing the city's vibrant culture and celebrating the resilience of its people.
The newly crowned queens, including Angela Melvie N. Bucu, will continue to captivate audiences during the upcoming Sangyaw Festival Parade on June 29, 2023.
