The provincial gymnasium of Sorsogon will be abuzz with activity on June 5th as it hosts the much-anticipated '2023 pre-SONA Caravan: Nagkaka1sang Bumabangon.' Organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in collaboration with the local government of Sorsogon under the leadership of Governor Jose Edwin "Boboy" B. Hamor, the event aims to showcase the accomplishments of the provincial administration and its partner agencies in improving the operations of Matnog Port.
The gathering will feature prominent speakers who will highlight various programs for the development of the port and the opening of more opportunities for the people of Sorsogon. Aligned with the theme of "Nagkaka1sang Bumabangon," these discussions will set the tone for the President's upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July 2023.
Keynote speaker PIA Undersecretary and Director General Jose A. Torres, Jr. will provide insights into the occasion's significance.
Additionally, the Assistant Secretary for the Maritime Sector of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), ASec Julius A. Yano, will discuss the topic "Port to Build Better Matnog." At the same time, the Undersecretary for Investment Programming Group of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Hon. Usec Joseph J. Capuno, will delve into the "Economic Impact of Matnog Port."
Other notable speakers include Mr. Achiles C. Galindes, the Acting Division Manager of the Matnog Port Terminal Management Office of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), who will discuss the "Port Management System." Governor Hamor will deliver his opening remarks, followed by inspirational messages from 1st District Congresswoman Bernadette G. Escudero and Sorsogon 2nd District Congressman Hon. Atty. Manuel L. Fortes, Jr.
Expectations are high for fruitful discussions on the development of Matnog Port. Local officials are hopeful that the progress achieved in the port under the first term of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will be highlighted in the upcoming SONA.
The event's preparations have been extensive, led by the Philippine Information Agency Region 5 and with solid support from the provincial government, spearheaded by Governor Hamor. Various national government agencies have also contributed significantly to its success.
The program will culminate with a closing message from PIA Region 5 Regional Head Ramil A. Marianito, followed by an entertaining Pasalinggaya event featuring games and raffle draws for attendees.
Prior to the pre-SONA event, a Service Caravan will be held at the capitol grounds, where partner agencies of the PIA and the local government of Sorsogon will provide services and showcase their products. The caravan will commence at 8:30 am on Monday, June 5th. —iTacloban (Source: PIA)
