TACLOBAN CITY – The City of Tacloban is hosting the Agri-Coop Trade Fair at Leyte Park grounds to provide fresh and affordable produce to its residents. Farmers from the northern part of Tacloban have brought an abundance of vegetables to the fair, including cabbage, bitter melon, string beans, eggplant, tomatoes, and others.
What sets this trade fair apart is the "farm gate price" at which the farmers sell their products. By eliminating the involvement of middlemen, who often contribute to the high prices of commodities in urban markets, the city government aims to create a direct link between farmers and consumers through the Office of the City Agriculturist.
The City Government of Tacloban, particularly the City Agriculturist Office, is working to establish a system that reduces the dependency on middlemen and ensures that Tacloban residents can regularly access fresh and affordable vegetables.
The support provided by the City Agri includes technical assistance, free seeds, fertilizers, farm machinery, and other necessary inputs for local farmer producers in Tacloban North. This comprehensive approach is expected to further enhance the city's agricultural sector's success.
The Agri-Coop Trade Fair opened last week and will continue until the 30th of June. Tacloban residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the fair and support local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Eastern Visayas region. —iTacloban (with reports from CIO)
