TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) has achieved a significant milestone in addressing the persistent flooding problem by successfully completing a PHP 4.849 million drainage system.
The newly constructed system spans from Daang Maharlika Road to Tanghas Lirang Creek, providing a vital solution to combat flooding in the area.
Commencing on February 23, 2023, the project's completion this month marks a significant achievement for the TCDEO, as reported by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-TCDEO.
Project Engineer Engr. Charlie Tampil highlighted the infrastructure development's primary objective, stating, "This infrastructure development aims to mitigate the longstanding issue of flooding in Tacloban City, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents."
The newly constructed drainage system comprises a 1.86 x 1.5-meter Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert. It is specifically designed to efficiently channel floodwaters away from vulnerable areas, particularly those affected by Villa Mayor's floodwaters.
By redirecting the flow of water, this system is expected to significantly reduce the risk of flooding and enhance the city's overall resilience to adverse weather conditions.
DE Johnny Acosta emphasized the significance of the project's completion, stating, "The completion of this drainage system project is a testament to our commitment to enhance the city's infrastructure and mitigate the impact of flooding."
With the implementation of this drainage system, Tacloban City expects long-term relief from flooding. This critical infrastructure project will safeguard the city's inhabitants and foster sustainable urban development. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH)
