TACLOBAN CITY – More than 193 qualified employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) were provided with rice assistance through a one-time grant program on May 31, 2023.
This program, initiated by President Marcos Jr. and authorized by Administrative Order No. 2, alleviates the ongoing pandemic's socio-economic impact on government employees while simultaneously strengthening the agricultural sector.
Under this initiative, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) disbursed P1,182,905,000 to the National Food Authority (NFA) for the procurement and distribution of rice assistance.
Eligible government workers across various departments receive a uniform quantity of 25 kilograms of rice, recognizing their invaluable contributions to efficiently delivering public services.
The distribution of rice assistance in Tacloban City was efficiently carried out by the Administrative Section, led by Anna Larena Samson and Merlita Eclipse. Their dedicated efforts ensured a smooth process, enabling all qualified TCDEO employees to receive their share of rice assistance.
District Engineer Johnny M. Acosta expressed his gratitude for the government's initiative, emphasizing the significance of the rice assistance program. He stated, "This rice assistance program is a testament to the government's recognition of the tireless efforts made by its employees. It provides us with much-needed support during these challenging times, and it will undoubtedly alleviate the burden on our households. We are also pleased that this program benefits our local farmers and contributes to the economic recovery of our nation."
Aside from providing benefits to government employees, the rice assistance program promotes domestic production and helps local Filipino farmers. The program aligns with the administration's commitment to economic recovery and transformation by sourcing rice from local sources. —iTacloban (Source: TCDEO)
