TACLOBAN CITY – Four provinces in Eastern Visayas have been granted funds for the implementation of a nutrition-sensitive intervention program under the administration of President Ferdinand "BongBong" Marcos Jr. Through strategic interventions and improved practices, the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) aims to combat stunting and poverty.

The selected provinces include Leyte with 22 recipient municipalities, Samar with 21 municipalities, Northern Samar with 14 municipalities, and Eastern Samar with 13 towns.

These areas were chosen based on criteria such as high stunting rates (17.5% or above), significant poverty incidence (21% or higher), previous experience in implementing KALAHI-CIDSS projects, and designation as priority areas within the Human Development and Poverty Reduction Cabinet cluster or the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.

Engr. Gerardo Peñeda, the Regional Deputy Program Manager of Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), responsible for implementing the program, announced that the allocated budget for Region 8 exceeds half a billion pesos.

The PMNP aims to promote the use of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions and improve key behaviors and skills to reduce stunting in the target LGUs. —iTacloban (Source: RP)
