CHED-8 announces available scholarships, warns against fake accounts

TACLOBAN CITY – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Region 8 issued an advisory on the scholarship programs currently available as of July 12, 2023. The commission also warned against certain social media posts and online accounts that falsely claim to offer these scholarships.

In the advisory, CHED-8 revealed the scholarship programs that are currently being administered by their office. These programs are designed to extend financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education. 

The following are the scholarship programs highlighted in the advisory:

  • CHED Merit Scholarship Program  The application deadline for this program was May 31, 2023. Currently, the office is in the process of validating the submitted applications.
  • Sugarcane Industry Development Act Scholarship Grant Program (SIDA-SGP)  Specifically designed for dependents of sugarcane industry workers and small sugarcane farmers, this scholarship program requires application through the Sugar Regulatory Administration. For more information, interested individuals can visit www.sra.gov.ph.
  • Medical Scholarship and Return Service Program (MSRS)  Intended for new or current Doctor of Medicine students enrolled in participating higher education institutions, application for this program should be directly submitted to the respective institution.
  • Scholarship for Instructors Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP) – Exclusively for teaching and non-teaching personnel from higher education institutions in the region, there is currently no call for application for this program.

In addition to announcing the scholarship programs, CHED-8 has cautioned the public about the proliferation of fake social media accounts disseminating false information regarding these scholarships. The office emphasizes that it has no affiliation with or endorsement of these unofficial accounts. 

Applicants are advised to rely solely on official sources for scholarship program updates to ensure the accuracy of the information.
