PHILIPPINES – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 17, 2023, to improve public safety and security through ICT.
The ceremony, held at Camp BGen. Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City, was attended by PNP Chief Police General Benjamin C. Acorda, Jr., DICT Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Oscar F. Valenzuela.
The MOU solidifies collaboration between the DICT and PNP across various areas, including intelligence sharing, joint cyber incident response, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices and technical expertise. The partnership aims to leverage the potential of information and communication technology (ICT) to bolster the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and ensure a safer society.
One of the event's highlights was the launch of the iReport app, a joint development of the DICT and the PNP. The iReport app enables citizens to report crimes directly from their mobile phones, facilitating a faster and more efficient response from law enforcement authorities. The app will be integrated into the eReport feature of the eGovPH super app, the Philippine government's all-in-one platform for accessing key local and government services.
DICT Secretary Uy expressed his optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to revolutionize how the government ensures public safety and security. He stated, "This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to leverage the potential of ICT in enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and promoting a safer society."
PNP Chief Police General Acorda emphasized the significance of the MOU, noting that it lays the foundation for a dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership between the PNP and the DICT. He stressed the importance of integration, interoperability, and interconnection between their respective systems and applications, contributing to a safe and secure digital space for all Filipinos.
During the ceremony, PNP also recognized individuals who played a crucial role in the digitalization efforts of the organization. Among the honorees were Undersecretary for E-Government David L. Almirol, Jr., OIC Director IV June Vincent Manuel S. Gaudan, Information Technology Officer I Ludivia B. Genio, and Aeia Joy J. Minas from the Office of the Undersecretary for E-Government. —iTacloban (Source: DICT)
