EASTERN VISAYAS – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Samar Field Office presented funding checks totaling more than 7.5 million pesos in a commendable initiative to uplift communities in Jiabong, Samar. Municipal Mayor Julie Cereno received the grants during a ceremony held at the municipal hall on July 3, 2023.
The largest portion of the funding, over 6 million pesos, has been allocated to a livelihood program that will benefit 201 parents/guardians of profiled child laborers and 2 self-employed beneficiaries. This grant will empower them to obtain essential tools, equipment, and materials for their chosen livelihood ventures, such as Hog Raising, Sari-sari Store, Mussels Vending, Carabao Farming, and Rice Retailing.
Furthermore, the Cantongtong United Youth Association (CUYA), a recipient of the Service Quality Improvement Program (SQIP), has been granted 500,000 pesos to enhance its Egg Laying Production Project.
The SQIP is an extensive program designed to address the challenges faced by beneficiaries, providing them with comprehensive training, mentorship, and resources to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, an additional funding check of 937,500 pesos has been provided, benefiting approximately 250 residents of Jiabong. This program will offer temporary employment opportunities to these individuals, allowing them to support themselves and their families during challenging times.
Expressing her heartfelt appreciation, Mayor Cereno conveyed her gratitude to DOLE-Samar, saying, "Maraming salamat DOLE sa lahat ng tulong na binigay ninyo sa LGU Jiabong."
This significant milestone signifies an important step in the ongoing effort to empower and improve the lives and welfare of CUYA members, the parents/guardians of profiled child laborers, and the disadvantaged workers in Jiabong.
The turnover ceremony was a simple yet meaningful event, attended by DOLE-SFO Livelihood Focal Meldy C. Mansanade and PESO Manager Honorato Labrague III, highlighting the collaborative effort in achieving these positive changes in the municipality. (Source: DOLE-8)
