NATION – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) remains committed to advancing the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), which aims to establish a reliable and environmentally friendly transportation system as part of its commitment to revolutionize public transportation.
Yesterday, Thursday, July 6, 2023, a Transport Forum was conducted as part of the Philippine Commercial Vehicle Show (PCVS), where modern PUV designs with various features were showcased. These features include GPS, CCTV, free Wi-Fi, and side entrances.
The modern jeepneys are also air-conditioned and provide ample passenger space, ensuring their utmost comfort.
DOTr Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure, James Andres Melad, emphasized that implementing the PUVMP is one of the department's primary priorities. He highlighted the long-term benefits and opportunities it brings, not only to passengers but also to our hardworking drivers.
"For the Department of Transportation, the continuous implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) remains one of our top priorities," said Asec. Melad.
"In line with this, we are working with our qualified agencies—the LTO, LTFRB, OTC, and other agencies collaborating with DOTr—to establish realistic and viable timelines for all activities under the PUVMP," the official added.
The PCVS 2023 serves as a platform to promote the modernization program and showcase the advancements in public transportation. By integrating innovative designs and improved features, the PUVMP aims to provide Filipinos a safer, more comfortable, and more efficient commuting experience while contributing to a cleaner environment. —iTacloban (Source: DOTr/PIA)
