TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways - Region VIII (DPWH-8) recently hosted the National Executive Board Meeting of the District Engineers League of The Philippines (DELP) on July 13 and 14, 2023.
The two-day event brought together engineers, executives, and distinguished guests nationwide to celebrate camaraderie and foster professional growth and excellence in the engineering industry.
The festivities began with a Fellowship Night at Pasqualino's Ristorante Italiano, featuring the DPWH R8 Band. Attendees stood for the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the "Himno ng DELP," reflecting the shared pride in their profession.
DELP Region 8 President, De Leo Edward Oppura, delivered an inspiring welcome message, emphasizing the significance of unity and collaboration in advancing the engineering field. Atty. Jay-B L. Talde, Chief Administrative Division Regional Office 8, admired the engineers' dedication and hard work and acknowledged their vital role in nation-building.
ADE Rebecca Yuse led a touching blessing of the sumptuous feast, expressing gratitude for the abundance and unity within the engineering community. The attendees were treated to a spectacular viewing of the San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Lights and the DPWH Region 8 Band's captivating audio-visual presentation showcasing the region's high-impact engineering projects.
The second day of the DELP National Executive Board Meeting unfolded at the esteemed Summit Hotel. Assistant Secretary DE Ma. Venus Torio commenced the proceedings with a roll call and declaration of quorum, setting the stage for a day of productive discussions and actions to advance the engineering profession.
An update on the "Gamit Pangeskwela, Handog ay Saya" Project highlighted the TCDEO's dedication to community development and support for educational initiatives.
DE Mario Correa provided a progress update on the Waiting Shed project, a public service initiative in front of the DPWH Central Office in Port Area, Manila, demonstrating the engineers' unwavering commitment to serving the public and improving daily life.
The National Executive Board Meeting concluded with an exhilarating award ceremony presented to Regions VII and X for their exceptional floral outfits showcased during the 2023 Midyear DELP-National Convention. The deserving winner, DE Joven Calabia, expressed her gratitude and excitement, exemplifying how the event fostered camaraderie and pride among the attendees, reaffirming their shared passion for engineering excellence. —iTacloban
