TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII has responded promptly to the devastating impact of Typhoon Egay and the prolonged habagat (southwest monsoon) in Western Samar from July 25 to July 26, 2023, by providing assistance to those in need.
Recognizing the urgent requirements of the affected population, the DSWD provided 1,621 family food packs (FFPs) to 6,196 families, benefiting more than 20,000 individuals severely affected by the natural calamity.
A particular focus of this aid effort was directed toward the residents of island communities in Western Samar, whose primary livelihood is fishing. Local government units (LGUs) of Tagapul-an, Sto. Niño, and Almagro were among the areas that received crucial assistance from the DSWD.
Assisting in the distribution were personnel from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Sangguniang Barangay (SB) members in the respective areas. Their collaborative efforts ensured that the relief goods reached the hands of those who needed them the most. —iTacloban (Source: DSWD-EV)
