Farmer beneficiaries in Caibiran, Biliran receives P30M-worth irrigation project

EASTERN VISAYAS –The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) collaborated to complete the Cabibihan Small Irrigation Project (SIP) as part of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC). 

The newly completed project was officially handed over to Cabacungan-Riverside-Cabibihan Irrigators Association (IA), Incorporated's farmer-beneficiaries.

Aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure the timely provision of irrigation water, the Cabibihan SIP will cater to a service area of 115 hectares in Barangay Cabibihan, Caibiran, Biliran. The project holds the potential to greatly benefit local farmers by improving their crop yields and livelihoods.

The turnover ceremony was led by Wilhelm S. Tiangco, the CARP-IC Project Manager, and attended by Alfred D. Amoloria, the CARP-IC Engineering Division Manager, and Maida B. Mendoza, the Administrative and Finance Division Manager. Notable guests included Ruby C. Tuan, Jr., the NIA Regional Manager, and Atty. Robert Anthony P. Yu, the DAR Regional Director. 

Also present were Conrado M. Samson, the Division Manager of Biliran-Leyte del Norte-Leyte del Sur IMO, Atty. Daniel E. Pen, the Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer for Leyte and Biliran, and Josefina Corazon N. Turla, PARCCOM Biliran Chairperson.

Hon. Rhodessa D. Revita, the Mayor of Caibiran, and Hon. Nelson G. Corpin, the Barangay Cabibihan Chairman, graced the occasion with their presence. The Cabibihan SIP was blessed by Rev. Fr. Richard Yurag, further symbolizing the significance of the project for the community. —iTacloban
