TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine Multi-sectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) was formally launched in Samar Province on July 28th at the Provincial Launch in Catbalogan. The initiative aims to combat malnutrition and improve health outcomes by implementing community-driven, nutrition-sensitive interventions.
Collaborating under the banner of KALAHI-CIDSS, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII and the Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development, along with other participating sectors, will work together to implement the PMNP in 20 municipalities across Samar this year.
During the launching activity, Regional Director of DSWD FO VIII Grace Q. Subong and representatives from DOH Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development and DOH Provincial Office of Samar were in attendance.
Supporting the project's realization in the province, Provincial Vice-Governor Hon. Arnold Tan and representatives from the National Nutrition Council VIII, DILG, Philippine Information Agency, UNICEF, Save the Children Visayas Cluster, and Zuellig Family Foundation were also present.
The PMNP's Component 2, overseen by DSWD through KALAHI-CIDSS, is estimated to benefit approximately 17,181 beneficiaries in Samar Province.
The project aims to empower local communities, foster their involvement in decision-making processes, and create sustainable solutions to address malnutrition and improve overall nutrition outcomes. —iTacloban (Source: DSWD-EV)
