| The social pension stipend distribution in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, has benefited thousands of beneficiaries. |
TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas (DSWD-8) has successfully distributed the social pension stipend in Borongan City as part of a significant effort to support the elderly and vulnerable members of society.
This remarkable program, carried out through the Transfer of Fund (ToF) mode, boasted an impressive budget of Php8,217,000.00 for the first semester of the year, demonstrating the government's commitment to addressing the needs of marginalized individuals.
The payout began on June 26 and is scheduled to conclude today, July 3, 2023. Implemented as a strategy by the local government, the payout was organized by clustering neighboring barangays and identifying accessible venues where beneficiaries residing in or near these areas could conveniently receive their stipends.
Within a day, payouts were conducted in more than 10 barangays or even more. In total, 2,739 individuals were identified as target beneficiaries for the social pension program in Borongan.
The successful implementation of the social pension program was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Borongan City Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Ms. Verina Amoyo, the City Treasurer's Office (CTO), DSWD FO VIII-SocPen Project Development Officer Narciso Codillo, the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), and the Barangay Officials of the host barangays where the payouts were conducted.
