Tacloban LGU strengthens coastal resource management through BFARMC

Tacloban LGU boosts coastal resource protection & rehab by activating the Barangay Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Management Council (BFARMC).

TACLOBAN CITY –Tacloban's local government unit (LGU) has taken steps to improve the conservation and restoration of coastal resources within the city, thanks to an initiative spearheaded by the Office of the Agriculturist. The BFARMC, which was established to oversee these efforts, recently welcomed its new members at an oath-taking ceremony attended by Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

The primary responsibilities of the BFARMC include assisting in preparing the Barangay/Municipal Development Plan and submitting it to the Barangay/Municipal Development Council. Additionally, the council will recommend the implementation of fishery ordinances to the Barangay or Municipal Council through the Committee on Fisheries.

Furthermore, they will assist in strictly enforcing fishery laws, rules, and regulations within their jurisdiction and inform the Barangay or Municipal Council about pertinent marine-related issues through the Committee on Fisheries.

The BFARMC is composed of various stakeholders, including the Chairperson of the Sangguniang Barangay Committee on Agriculture/Fisheries, representatives from the Barangay Development Council, an accredited non-government organization, the private sector, and not less than eight members from the fisherfolk/fish workers sector, with the inclusion of youth and women. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
