EASTERN VISAYAS – The first Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair held on August 26-27, 2023, became the platform for the successful distribution of P20,316,785.00 worth of government assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 (DOLE-8). This substantial aid benefited 5,142 workers across various municipalities of the Province of Biliran.
Key officials such as House Speaker and 1st District of Leyte Representative, Hon. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and Tingog Partylist Representative, Hon. Philip Jude Acidre, inaugurated the event. Biliran Lone District Representative Hon. Gerardo Espina Jr., and Governor Hon. Gerard Roger Espina also participated in awarding and dispensing diverse aid packages at the BIPSU Campus in Naval, Biliran.
The fair's opening day witnessed the provision of TUPAD wages totaling P7,953,750.00 to 2,121 workers from Naval, Almeria, and Kawayan who were displaced or at a disadvantage. Alongside, 488 GIP beneficiaries were endowed with a stipend of P2,008875.00, and 33 underemployed workers gained a livelihood boost through assistance valuing P979,160.00.
On the subsequent day, the municipalities of Maripipi, Biliran, Cabucgayan, Caibiran, and Culaba became the backdrop for the distribution of P9,375,000.00 in wages to another 2,500 workers, as part of the TUPAD initiative.
Orchestrating the proceedings of the DOLE-8 team was Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena, who reaffirmed the office's unwavering resolve to propel employment and livelihood interventions to the workers of Eastern Visayas, with a particular focus on the province of Biliran.
Highlighting the labor department's alignment with the current administration's aspirations, Jalbuena remarked, "The labor department stands in unity with the administration’s vision to draw government programs and services nearer to our treasured workers."
