LEYTE – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Leyte Second District has taken steps to improve road safety and accommodate the growing number of vehicles. The focus of this endeavor is the Bagahupi-Babatngon-Sta. Cruz-Barugo-Carigara road, specifically the Barugo section within Barangay Domogdog.
In response to the rising vehicular traffic in the area, the DPWH has embarked on a road widening project, transforming the existing 2-lane concrete pavement into an expanded 4-lane structure. This strategic enhancement covers 1.626 kilometers on each side of the existing pavement, with a width of 2.55 meters. The project also includes implementing stone masonry techniques to ensure the durability of the widened road.
District Engineer Leo Edward Oppura highlighted the necessity of this expansion. The surge in automobile usage necessitates broader roads to accommodate a higher volume of vehicles, thereby elevating traffic safety for commuters and the general public. This move aligns with the district's commitment to enhancing travel conditions.
The endeavor is executed in collaboration with 820 Builders and Construction Supply, with a contract valued at Php 14.68 million. Funding is derived from the DPWH Network Development Road Widening of Tertiary Roads program for the year 2023. The project's timeline is well on track, with completion expected by the following month.
