EASTERN VISAYAS – Over 80 big bike enthusiasts from Samar Island demonstrated solidarity and support for the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry 'Storm Troopers' Division by participating in the "Ride for Peace and Development" event on August 5th. The ride covered over 200km of roads and was organized to mark the 35th anniversary of the division, which is based in Eastern Visayas.
Said event was spearheaded by House Minority Leader and 4Ps Party-List Representative Marcelino Libanan and was joined by Samar 1st District Congressman Jimboy Tan, as well as 8ID Commander MGen. Camilo Ligayo and other members of the local Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC). Riders from nearby provinces, such as Leyte and Cebu also participated in the event.
Under the guidance of the Highway Patrol Group, the ride route commenced on Baybay Boulevard, Borongan City, Eastern Samar, passing through the newly inaugurated Samar Pacific Coastal Road in Northern Samar and concluding at the 8ID headquarters in Catbalogan City, Western Samar.
Minority Leader Libanan expressed that the event's main objective was to show their support for the Philippine Army and demonstrate unity and determination among all stakeholders in advancing peace and development throughout Samar Island. He thanked everyone who supported the activity, commending their dedication and cooperation.
