TACLOBAN CITY – This city witnessed the enthusiastic inauguration of the 2023 Cooperative Month Celebration on October 6, 2023.
Various cooperatives from the region congregated to partake in the event's opening ceremony, orchestrated by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and the City Government of Tacloban, with the City Cooperatives Development and Livelihood Assistance Office (CCDLAO) playing a pivotal role.
The inaugural festivities were marked by a lively motorcade, a Thanksgiving Mass, and an inaugural program hosted at the newly established CCDLAO edifice at Kanhuraw Hill, Tacloban City.
City Councilor Leo Bahin, representing Mayor Alfred Romualdez, delivered a message expressing unity with cooperatives, recognizing them as crucial drivers of economic advancement within their localities. The event also saw the presence of CDA Regional Office 8 Director Venus M. Jornales and City Cooperative Officer Ruena Mate.
A lineup of engaging activities is slated for this October as part of the celebration. Notable events include the Coop Sportfest, Coop Got Talent, and Mr. and Ms. Coop Sportsfest on October 14, a bloodletting drive on October 18, tree planting and nurturing on October 21, and the Coop Pasidungog on October 27.
The month of October is officially designated as "National Cooperative Month" under RA No. 11502, aiming to underscore the pivotal role of cooperatives in propelling the nation's economic growth.
This year's cooperative month theme is "Cooperatives: Pioneering the Paths to Recovery Amidst the Modern Challenges of Climate Change and Food Security," accentuating the cooperative sector's crucial contribution to climate resilience and food sustainability amidst contemporary challenges. —iTacloban (Souce: CIO)
