TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 8 achieved recognition as the 1st Runner-Up in the 2023 Search for Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Project, specifically under the Individual Category.
The victorious project, the Street Food Vending initiative by Ms. Melfo Bitor from Sogod, Southern Leyte, was honored during the Awarding Ceremony held on November 14, 2023, at Sequoia Hotel in Parañaque City.
Ms. Bitor, the national winner in her category, was awarded a cash prize of P40,000.00 and a plaque of recognition for her outstanding efforts.
The event, graced by DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma and Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez, was attended by delegates representing various regions. It served as a platform to acknowledge regional awardees across different categories.
Among the Region 8 awardees were:
- Ms. Melfo Bitor (Street Food Vending - Individual Category)
- Datag Farmers Association (Swine Fattening - Group Category)
- Ms. Salvacion Yepez - Best Performing TUPAD Focal
- Ms. Meldy Mansanade - Best Performing DILP Focal
- LGU-MacArthur - Best Co-Partner in DILP Implementation
Furthermore, DOLE-8 was recognized for its significant contributions to successfully implementing the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) in Eastern Visayas.
Atty. Dax B. Villaruel, the newly installed OIC Regional Director, led the DOLE-8 team in attending this significant occasion, marking a moment of pride and acknowledgment for their commendable endeavors. —iTacloban
