TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII joined hands with the Fraternal Order of EAGLES (Philippine EAGLES), Central Tacloban Engineers Eagles Club, Central Tacloban Engineers Lady Eagles Club, and Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) to organize a blood-letting activity on November 15, 2023, at the DPWH VIII Basketball Court in Baras, Palo, Leyte.
Led by the DPWH Regional Office VIII Maintenance and Construction Divisions, in conjunction with members of the Central Tacloban Engineers Eagles Club and the Medical Staff of EVMC, the Blood Donation Activity aimed to underscore the spirit of volunteerism among government employees.
DPWH 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon remarked, "This bloodletting activity is one way of collectively showcasing volunteerism among employees of the government. We give so others may live. It is our way to show our appreciation to the gift of life that we are blessed with to serve the public."
Donors underwent stringent screening adhering to medical guidelines set by EVMC, ensuring that only those deemed fit and well were eligible to contribute. A commendable total of 23 blood donors from DPWH generously participated, collecting 23 units/bags of blood during the event.
Dubbed "Save Life; Donate Blood," the blood-letting activity served a dual purpose: augmenting the blood supply in the region and fostering awareness about the critical importance of blood donation in saving lives.
The event received co-sponsorship from the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) - Metro Tacloban Chapter and the Central Baluarte Tacloban Rotary Club, further emphasizing the collaborative effort invested in promoting this vital cause. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH-8)
