TACLOBAN CITY – The Northern Samar First District Engineering Office (DEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of a new multi-purpose building at Bobon Central Elementary School in Brgy. Santa Clara, Bobon, Northern Samar.
The P9.89 million project was funded by the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2023.
The new multi-purpose structure, with a total floor area of 568 square meters, serves as a covered court and an evacuation center.
Electrical work, painting, storm drainage and downspout installation, and a basketball ring on a heavy-duty movable frame were all part of the construction work. The existing stage was also extensively repaired to provide a safe and functional space for school activities and events.
Dr. Ethyl Ricafort, principal of Bobon Central Elementary School, emphasized the project's importance to the people of Bobon, particularly the students and teachers.
She said the project benefited them by providing shelter during the recently concluded Barangay and SK Elections and serving as a hub for school events such as the United Nations and sports festivals. She expressed gratitude to the DPWH for making the project meaningful to them.
According to District Engineer Mario D. Villena, the multi-purpose building will also serve as a temporary shelter for the local populace during natural disasters and emergencies, emphasizing its dual role in promoting both education and community safety.
He stated that the project is part of the DPWH's commitment to providing quality infrastructure for the region's development.
The construction of the project began on April 12, 2023, and was completed on October 16, 2023. —iTacloban
