TACLOBAN CITY – On February 14, the city government celebrated Heart's Day with a special event promoting health and wellness among its employees. The event was held on the 3rd floor of the CCDLAO Function Hall, Kanhuraw Hill, near the City Hall main building.
The event was led by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, who encouraged the employees to participate in various activities designed to raise awareness and prevent cardiovascular diseases. The first 100 participants were offered free metabolic screening, which included tests for glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol levels.
The event also featured a lay forum on heart attacks and hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in collaboration with the Philippine Heart Association Eastern Visayas and The Doctor's Kitchen. The forum and training aimed to educate the employees on the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and the basic steps to perform CPR in case of an emergency.
One of the event's highlights was the Pledge of Commitment towards a Healthy Lifestyle, where the employees vowed to adopt healthier habits such as eating well, exercising regularly, and avoiding smoking and alcohol. The pledge was part of the "Labs Ko an Lawas Ko" program initiative, which has been running for 13 years and has inspired healthy living among the city government staff.
The event was a celebration of love and a reminder of the importance of caring for one's heart and health. —iTacloban (with reports from CIO)
