The DOH emphasizes the following 5S strategy to prevent dengue:

  1. Search and Destroy mosquito breeding sites. Eliminate areas where mosquitoes can breed, inside and outside homes, and keep stored water covered and clean.
  2. Seek Consultation if experiencing sudden high fever for two days or other symptoms.
  3. Self-Protection by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves, light-colored clothing, and long pants.
  4. Support Fogging Activities in communities where dengue outbreaks are reported.
  5. Sustain Hydration by drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Hospitals and health facilities are also advised to ensure the availability of Dengue Fast Lanes, sufficient healthcare providers, and necessary dengue-related supplies and medications to ensure prompt service delivery.

The DOH calls on local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies to actively participate in dengue prevention efforts by supporting activities, enhancing monitoring measures, and providing essential resources to health facilities. —iTacloban
