TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII has announced that the feasibility study for the proposed International Convention Center (ICC) in Tacloban City will begin this year. The budget for the study has been allocated under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024.
The DPWH is currently evaluating qualified bidders for this crucial study. If the project proceeds, the ICC will serve as a premier venue for regional, national, and international events, positioning Tacloban City and Eastern Visayas as a key Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) hub in the Philippines.
The proposed ICC is designed to be a spacious, dynamic facility fostering social interaction and idea exchange. It will feature aerodynamic designs to enhance natural ventilation, aligning with the climate of Eastern Visayas, known for its tropical weather and seasonal monsoons.
Once completed, the ICC will not only boost the local economy by attracting significant events and tourism but also enhance the region's infrastructure and global connectivity. The project aligns with national priorities to develop key tourism and business infrastructure, reflecting Tacloban City's growing prominence as a central destination for major gatherings in the Philippines. —iTacloban
