PHILIPPINES – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced a waiver of penalties for late registration of motor vehicles and renewal of driver's licenses as a relief measure for those affected by Tropical Storm Kristine. This initiative was approved by Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista.
In a memorandum issued by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, the waiver applies to vehicles whose registration expires in October 2024 and driver's licenses that expire between October 21 and 31, 2024.
The penalties will be waived until November 8, 2024. The validity of driver’s licenses and motor vehicle registrations issued during this period is likewise extended until November 8, 2024.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that Tropical Storm Kristine affected approximately two million individuals.
Furthermore, for new vehicle registrations, the counting of days from the date of the Sales Invoice will begin on the next working day after November 8, 2024, for vehicles purchased from October 21 to 31, 2024.
This nationwide waiver reflects the extensive impact of the storm, which affected almost the entire country.
