TACLOBAN CITY — The Mayor’s Employment Generation Activity (MEGA) Job Fair, held yesterday at the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome), drew hundreds of hopeful jobseekers. The event featured over 2,700 job openings from 49 local employers and 9 overseas recruitment agencies.

City Councilor Christopher Randy Esperas, representing Mayor Alfred Romualdez, opened the job fair alongside PESO Acting Manager Ruena Mate, DOLE Assistant Regional Director Norman Uyvico, and representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers and USAID Urban Connect.

By midday, five applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS) for roles such as production crew, cashier, customer assistant, and sales associate. By the end of the day, many more positions were expected to be filled.

What to Expect in Future Job Fairs

Job fairs like MEGA offer a golden opportunity for jobseekers locally and abroad. If you missed this event, here are some things to keep in mind for future job fairs:

1. Prepare a Strong Resume – Tailor your resume to the jobs you’re applying for. Keep multiple copies on hand for potential employers.

2. Practice Interview Skills – Some employers conduct on-the-spot interviews. Practice answering common interview questions to boost your confidence.

3. Dress to Impress – Business attire helps create a professional impression, improving your chances of standing out.

4. Stay Informed – Follow the announcements from PESO and the city government for future job fairs and employment programs.

For those who attended, the event offered a significant platform to connect with employers. Those unable to participate should look for more job fairs and continue pursuing employment opportunities through PESO and other local agencies. —iTacloban
